Middle School Math Instructor

The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Middle School (grades 7-8) Mathematics Instructor. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interest in problem-based learning, learner-centered pedagogy, and rigorous and complex assessments. A passion for working with middle school students is a must. Candidates who can teach advanced mathematics to talented middle school students are particularly suitable, as are those with experience in computer science. The Stone Independent School seeks employees who want to contribute as part of a community of learners, educators, and professionals who act with empathy, ethicality, and gratitude, striving to make the world a measurably better place. All employees are expected to be full members of the school community, engaging in student life, academic purpose, and the school’s mission.

Position Summary: Our program emphasizes the development of skills and the opportunity for students to cultivate their curiosity through a wide range of choices. The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Teach 7th - 8th grade mathematics;

  • Teach and design interdisciplinary courses with the Middle School Team;

  • Design and develop a skills-based curriculum with a team of mathematics teachers;

  • Teach multi-grade level electives to Upper School students, the design and scope of which are informed by teacher and student interests;

  • Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth; 

  • Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team;

  • Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors

  • Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and actively promoting anti-racism in education;

  • Supporting and advancing the written Mission of the School.

Our teachers are engaged in the work of designing curriculum and creating a school culture alongside our students. The right candidate will be inquisitive, interested in educational design, engaged by Stone’s mission and creative ethos, highly energetic, and committed to working with adolescents.

Upper School Math Instructor

The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Upper School math instructor for the 2024 - 2025 school year to teach upper level math courses. The ideal candidates will demonstrate strong interest in problem-based learning (for example, seeing tackling a problem set or a math proof as a design thinking – i.e., iterative – challenge, rather than a task to be checked off; for example, seeing developing proficient mathematical thinking as an ongoing process); learner-centered pedagogy; and rigorous and complex assessments.

  • Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth; 

  • Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team;

  • Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors;

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and actively promoting anti-racism in education;

  • Supporting and advancing the written Mission of the School.

Middle School Humanities

The Stone Independent School seeks a full-time Middle School (grades 7-8) Humanities Instructor. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interest in problem-based learning, learner-centered pedagogy, and rigorous and complex assessments. A passion for working with middle school students is a must. Candidates should be able to teach academic writing, reading, and research, and be able to navigate the content of a middle school social studies curriculum. Suitable candidates might have background teaching middle school English or history, but preference will be given to candidates who have successfully taught the core skills of academic writing, reading, and research (including some literary analysis).   • Teach 7th - 8th grade humanities;

  • Teach and design interdisciplinary courses with the Middle School Team;

  • Design and develop a skills-based curriculum with a team of humanities teachers;

  • Teach multi-grade level electives to Upper School students, the design and scope of which are informed by teacher and student interests;

  • Teach one five-day “Intensive” course;

  • Advise a group of 8-10 students, overseeing their academic and social growth; 

  • Perform other non-teaching duties as assigned by the Senior Administrative Team;

  • Help lead morning community time, serve as club and House leaders, mentors, and advisors

  • Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and actively promoting anti-racism in education;

  • Supporting and advancing the written Mission of the School.
