Meet the Pioneers!

It’s hard for us to believe it, but it’s true: the Class of 2021 is only a few weeks away from graduating! We call The Class of ‘21 our “Pioneer Class” because they were with us on our very first day of school ever and because they have witnessed every stage of Stone’s development alongside us. Over the next three weeks, we will be spotlighting students from the Class of ‘21 — from the “original” Pioneers who were with us on our very first day right through to the Pioneers who joined us this August!

Where are you headed next Fall? I’ll be attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I intend to study biostatistics with a focus on public health.

What are you most excited to learn next year? I’m known around school for my interest in epidemiology, but I also really love to listen to and perform music. I’m excited to explore the vibrant live music scene near UNC, and I hope one day to perform music at one of the historic music venues in Chapel Hill.

What’s a project you feel particularly proud of from your time here at Stone? On the last week of my Sophomore year, two of my friends and I wrote, recorded, and published an album during Winter Intensive. The result was rough around the edges, but it was a fun project and the outcome was far better than any of us anticipated. That project springboarded my interest in music performance and production, and is one of the reasons why I collaborated with a classmate in Entrepreneurship III to start a record label (Extraordinary Records).

What accomplishment are you most proud of from your time here at Stone? During the summers after both my tenth and eleventh grade, I participated in two programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The first summer, I was accepted into and participated in the CDC Disease Detective Camp; the second summer, I was hired by the CDC as an interviewer for their Online Information Sessions. I hope to work in public health — I was really grateful for both opportunities to get a taste of that work with the CDC.

What advice do you have for students just beginning here at Stone? I find that my best and most interesting work comes when I'm not focused on the product or grade. Here at Stone, it’s important to connect yourself to the process of the work because that, in the end, is what breeds meaningful growth.

And, just for fun: what’s one song which best exemplifies your time here at Stone? In My Life by The Beatles
