The Future,
at Stone.
By 2029, The Stone Independent School will be the only problem-based k-12 school in Pennsylvania.
In July of 2025, the Stone Board of Trustees to adopt a transformative Strategic Plan, one which includes investment in athletics, in the arts, in our team, and in our program.
When it is completed, the Stone Independent School will be a best-in-class k-12 problem-based school on a new campus designed to support the remarkable research and remarkable work our students and faculty do every single day.
This is indeed a bold and complex strategic plan, one which is the culmination of years of work led by our Board of Trustees and our Strategic Plan Steering Committee. Over the last two years we have engaged hundreds of community voices through qualitative and quantitative surveys, we have also worked directly with 50 “community designers” representing 7 different stakeholder groups who took part in Community Design Day and subcommittee meetings during the 2024-2025 school year.
As you read the plan, you will see that we are thinking very big – about our future, about what we can be. And as you read the plan, you will see that success will require community wide engagement, creative thinking, significant collaboration, real curiosity, and hard work.
In short, it will demand the same kind of work we have been doing here at Stone since our opening day in 2017.
We intend to add grade levels, grow our program, invest in our people, affirm our Mission and our model and our purpose — and we will do it all while staying absolutely true to who we are. Our community has been clear that they want more from Stone, and they don’t want to lose what has made this community so magical in the process.
All of which is why we have been saying throughout this process that the final outcome of this plan will not be measured in bricks and mortar, the outcome of this plan will be measured by the impact our students have in the communities they work in, in the places they go, in the people they become.
The outcome of this strategic plan is the best possible platform — the best culture, the best model, the best environment, the best House system, the best Stonehunt — for our remarkable students to do remarkable work.
I am so deeply proud of all that we have accomplished together in our first eight years of work – I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next, together.
